The Alpine World Ski Championships is a bi-annual event that takes place on odd years in various locations. This year, Are, Sweden is hosting this historic event. The first Alpine World Championships were held in 1931. In the 30s, the championships were held annually. At least until WWII. From 1948 to the current times, it has been bi-annually since 1948. However, it skipped 1984 and went to 1985 so it would not compete with the Olympics. Now, there are 78 countries that compete in the championships including places that do not usually see snow.
